The Best of the Best: The Beatles' "Revolver"

When I think greatest albums of all time, this one is the one that pops into my head first. It's The Beatles' Revolver. Some of my favorite Beatles outings are right here on this album. And when you look into other greatest albums of all time, they usually give a shoutout to this record. It sounds like a lot of artists of the day chased the creativity and ingenuity of this record. And in reality, they probably still chase it today.
Revolver is a joy from top to bottom. I think "Taxman" is perhaps my favorite Beatles song along with "Come Together." It's fun and engaging and gives us twists and turns from the beginning to the end. The lyrics are clever too.
A lot was going on with the band around this time. They were giving up touring, John Lennon dissed Jesus, and LSD became popular. The band utilized all of the latest and greatest technology of the time. The result was an entrance into the psychedelic, Indian philosophy, and avant-garde. And avant-garde can be... A helluva mixed bag. Seriously. Like some artists out here make these records that insist and persist in being works of art for the sake of being a work of art. Which is fine. Sometimes you have to tap into that creativity. You can listen to the whole album and say "that was nice, but I don't want to do that again." If you can't relisten and be intrigued and engaged and interested, then what is the point?
The Beatles completely avoid that here. Revolver leaves you with the impression of "wow. I loved that. It was amazing. I want to listen again. I wish I could experience this for the first time again."
And I think that's found in the elegant strings of "Eleanor Rigby." The Hindustani classical of "Love You To." And the child-like wonder and novelty of "Yellow Submarine." Who can forget the joyful insanity that is "Tomorrow Never Knows?"
The Beatles and their influence on music itself is indescribable. We owe a lot to them for shaping every artist we know and love today. You hear special records like this one here, Revolver, and you're left stupified. All their works are the greatest of the great in some way, but the vibe here on Revolver is second to none.

Rank: S Rank. Of course.
Recommendation: when you feel artsy or when you want to get high and come up with conspiracies.
