Song Spotlight: Katy Perry's "Woman's World"
Teenage Dream is one of THE album's of my life. I owned that album in high school when I was having my own teenage dream. It was one of the first albums I ever owned. And I truly love every track on that album and its Complete Confection repackage. It was my life for so long and still is. I revisit it very often! When "Last Friday Night (TGIF)" hit number one, everyone was so excited for what Perry would do next (and what she should have done was "Hummingbird Heartbeat." Fight me.) Perry was the coolest yet also so fun and relatable. Even Prism is a great pop album and had hits that got away like "Walking On Air" and "International Smile." Perry was a pop juggernaut that I'm surprised got away and just... disappeared overnight.
Katy, what happened to you? Give us the good pop we know and love.
Perry faulters something silly on latest single and comeback attempt, "Woman's World." The music is meh. The weak redeeming part of it, really. The song desperately needs a bridge which is a trend in pop that I wish would go away as sometimes the bridge makes the song ("Good Luck, Babe!" says yo!) Dr. Luke couldn't even be bothered on this one. Maybe he knew it was ridiculous for Perry to work with him too. IDK. What I do know is these lyrics leave a lot to be desired. They're lifeless and uninspired.
Everyone was so excited for a Katy Perry comeback, and she ruined it herself. I still hope Perry will give us another great and legendary song. I swear she has it in her, but she needs good collaborator (Bonnie McKee, please come back!) If she released "Never Really Over" or "Harleys in Hawaii" now instead of this stale saltine cracker, it probably would have been a hit. I even liked several songs on Smile.
