Song Spotlight: AKB48's "Colorcon Wink"

    Yuki! I'm going to miss you so much! I never thought that Kashiwagi Yuki would graduate. She's the kamioshi you are the most proud of because she prevailed for so long. 

    Anyways! Now that we are in spring, I figured this would be the best time to cover AKB48's latest single, "Colorcon Wink." It's classic AKB which is very fitting considering it is Kashiwagi's graduation single. "Wink" is upbeat, bright, colorful. Everything you want it to be for spring. I think it's AKB's best send-off since "Jiwaru DAYS" back in 2019. And one of their better singles as of late. 

    I'm looking forward to see where AKB will go from here. They have a few members that can be absolute centers, and they've got a couple of kenkyuusei that could take the spot too. I almost wish they'd go back to their roots like what SKE48 has done. Focus on theater shows and give us new stages. Bring the teams back. Maybe get exactly 48 members again and rebuild from the ground up. Possibly pick a new member to be an absolute center like Maeda Atsuko was back in the day, and then spotlight the rest of the members. Get into the variety game again. Go back to seasonal releases with sakura singles, summer singles, a cool autumn dance number, and then an idol-like winter release. It's too much to ask for the janken tournament single and election back, isn't it?

    I think when AKB stopped the election, they stopped being interesting. I know it was a popularity contest, but it was still fun. The members said it was stressful on them. Which is a big reason why I support them not doing it anymore. But it was THE idol event of the year for 10 years. I miss it.
